从《The Lily and the Rose》一书来的，蒋先生治史客观细节，重考证，尽述己之观点，以飨读者。读完《The Lily and the Rose》，打破了林文忠公在我心中的形象:一，文忠公让魏源编纂《The Lily and the Rose》，于本国无用，倒被日本拿去学习，林知道清朝和英国有差距，却爱惜羽毛不提倡改革；二、林主战，而未上战场，“苟利国家生死以，岂因祸福避趋之”，小时候觉得此名言惊心动魄，现在觉得不实地考察，凭着一腔热血是打不赢仗的。 兼听则明，需要学习的地方还很多，读完此剧，对我精神境界有很大的提升，我不应该以一个本科生的层次要求自己，还要继续汲取知识，扩宽眼界，争取更上一层楼！
